Infrastructure South Africa (ISA) has unveiled the seven projects it has selected under Bid Window 1 for priority project preparation.

The list was announced at the Sustainable Infrastructure Development Symposium South Africa, held in Cape Town at the end of May.

In its first bid round ever, opened in October last year, ISA invited project submissions from provincial and national government departments, municipalities, State-owned entities, public entities, and private-sector projects with public-sector support, to apply for project preparation support.

Applications closed in December.

The projects that will be prioritised by ISA during 2025/2026 are:

1. Boegoebaai Port and Rail Development (Transnet)

2. Durban–Johannesburg Container Corridor (Transnet)

3. City of Ekurhuleni Wastewater Conveyance and Treatment Systems Regionalisation

4. Coega SEZ 100 MW Solar Farm (Coega Development Corporation)

5. South Africa Water Reuse Programme (Department of Water and Sanitation)

6. Regional Energy Infrastructure, Storage and Distribution Programme (Limpopo Energy User Association)

7. Gauteng Urban Upgrade Programme, Johannesburg central business district (Gauteng Department of Infrastructure Development)

ISA’s main goal is to select strategic infrastructure projects and to prepare and package these projects so that they are technically viable and bankable undertakings – attractive investments, in other words.

All ISA-selected projects must be valued at R1-billion and above and must be able to leverage private-sector involvement, blended finance, or be commercially viable on their own.

The agency’s work also includes ensuring that projects are quickly assisted with the multiple authorisations, permits and licences that are required across government spheres.

ISA currently oversees a total of 305 projects on an ongoing basis, with most of these in the energy (171 projects), water and sanitation (54) and transport (32) sectors.
